Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Riteish Deshmukh's much-awaited comedy, Housefull 5, hit theatres on June 6 and has taken a stellar start at the domestic box office. It opened to mixed reviews from the audience and film critics. According to Sacnilk.com, the film collected an impressive Rs 23 crore on its opening day in India, making it the biggest opener in the Housefull franchise.
With minimal competition at the box office - Raid 2, Kesari Chapter 2, and Bhool Chuk Maaf nearing the end of their theatrical runs - Housefull 5 is expected to have a clear runway ahead.
The film is likely to see a strong jump over the weekend, especially with the Bakri Eid holiday boosting footfalls. Trade estimates suggest a Rs 75 crore weekend is within reach.
Housefull 5 becomes franchise's biggest opener
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala's Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the fifth installment has surpassed the opening day record of Housefull 4, which had reportedly earned over Rs 19 crore in 2019.
With this, Housefull 5 has also registered the biggest opening in the comedy genre in recent times, fuelled by strong pre-release buzz and audience excitement.

Housefull 5 also recorded the third-best opening day for a Bollywood film in 2025, trailing only behind Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava (Rs 31 crore on Day 1) and Salman Khan's Sikandar (Rs 26 crore on Day 1). It has even surpassed Raid 2, Jaat and all other 2025 releases so far, making it Akshay's biggest post-pandemic opener after Sooryavanshi.
Starring a massive ensemble including Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma, among others, the film presents a quirky murder mystery set on a cruise.
When a billionaire announces that his fortune will go to Jolly, a man is mysteriously killed, leading to chaos as three Jollys (Akshay, Riteish, and Abhishek) and their girlfriends become suspects.
For now, Housefull 5 has delivered the laugh riot fans were waiting for, and the box office numbers reflect just that.
