A few days ago, at an event of his upcoming film Thug Life, Kamal Haasan stated that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil'. This didn't go down well with pro-Kannada groups, political leaders, and members of the film industry. Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) stated that if the veteran actor doesn't apologise, they won't allow the release of Thug Life in the state. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to X (Twitter) to support Haasan, but he later deleted the tweet.
In a now-deleted tweet, RGV wrote, “DEMOCRACY’s new name is INTOLERANCE..irrespective of factual correctness , threats to ban #ThugLife in Karnataka unless @ikamalhaasan apologises , amounts to a new kind of HOOLIGANISM.”

Meanwhile, reportedly, Haasan moved to the Karnataka High Court on Monday to ensure that his film gets a smooth release in the state. While KFCC is asking for an apology, the veteran actor has clearly stated that he won't apologise.
Earlier, in an interview, the Thug Life actor said, "I will not apologise for something I said out of love. It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda."
Thug Life Release Date
Thug Life is all set to release on June 5, 2025. It is a Tamil film, but it will be dubbed and released in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Apart from Haasan, the film also stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and others.
Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam have teamed up together after Nayakan which was released in 1987. So, the expectations from the film are quite high.
