Chinese actress Zhao Lusi, who shot to fame with the romcom Hidden Love, made her first public appearance recently, days after falling critically ill and getting hospitalised due to clinical depression. As the actress stepped out in the public, her fans burst into tears, and she was seen consoling them and assuring them that she was doing well.
Lusi attended an event in China on Saturday and she was seen making a dramatic entry in a horse carriage. As soon as she stepped off the carriage, fans erupted into cheers and claps, and many of them were seen getting emotional and shedding tears of joy.
Consoling her emotional fans, Lusi playfully said, "Hey what’s going on! The new year is almost here and you guys are crying like this?" She also blew them kisses, making her fans go berserk, and wished them a Happy Chinese New Year in advance.
During the event, Lusi was seen walking with the support of a person, and at one point, even with the help of a walking cane, as reports stated that she was still recovering from her health issues.
For those unversed, Lusi was rushed to a hosoitak in Shanghai in December after she collapsed while shooting for her upcoming project. Photos and videos of the actress slumped in a wheelchair went viral online, and reports stated that her weight had hit 37 kg due to her illness.
The 26-year-old actress admitted that she had been battling depression for several years. "My career has brought me more help and support than I could have imagined. I am truly grateful and feel fortunate. This has helped me understand all the misunderstandings. I support anyone’s right to choose their desired career at any time because you always have the right to escape situations that bring suffering and exhaustion. You can stop anytime — you are free, and you can be brave," she wrote on her Weibo account post getting discharged from the hospital.
Videos of the actress struggling to work due to her extremely low weight and weakness had also surfaced on the internet.
Asking people to take depression and mental health seriously, Lusi had stated that she never spoke about her battle earlier as she did not want any "hype" around it. "Depression is an emotion, but depression as a condition is a disease. It cannot simply be resolved by 'thinking positively' or 'talking it out'," she wrote.
