Twinkle Khanna is going to support a short film, ‘First Period’. The Short film will be based on the sensitive subject of the first period from a boy’s point of view and will show a world where the tables have flipped and the women doesn’t even exist. This will be Twinkles another production venture after producing Pad Man which voiced out an important topic of menstrual hygiene. The film is written and directed by Mozez Singh, who made the film Zubaan (2016). The film will be launched on social media today on the occasion of World Menstrual Day.
“When I was approached by Dasra, the NGO behind the film alongside The Gates Foundation, their brief was they wanted men to be involved in the conversation about menstrual hygiene. So, we wrote a script where we showed everything from a man’s point of view and how in that world it’s all perfect and empowering. It raises the question why can’t this happen in a woman’s world and forces you to neutralise gender disparity. First Period is another voice in that conversation.” Mozez quoted in DNA.
According to Mozez, Twinkle is largely responsible of making menstrual hygiene a topic of conversation through her books and films, which is the reason why he decided to take Twinkle’s feedback on the same.
Mozez showed the short film to Twinkle as soon as it was finished, and Twinkle was very much impressed. “She felt the film made a solid and forceful point and she offered her support immediately. I remain indebted to her,” says Mozez gratefully.
