Ranveer Singh's Don 3, announced in August 2023 and directed by Farhan Akhtar, has faced multiple delays. Kiara Advani was confirmed as the female lead, and now, reports suggest that filming will finally begin in 2026 with Priyanka Chopra also coming on board. This marks her reunion with Ranveer, with whom she previously shared screen space in Gunday, Dil Dhadakne Do, and Bajirao Mastani.
According to Bollywood Hungama, a source told Subhash K. Jha that the delay was unavoidable, as Ranveer had to deal with massive online trolling after stepping into Shah Rukh Khan's iconic role in Don 3. As a result, Farhan and Ranveer mutually decided to let the heat die down before moving forward.
"Ranveer also needed time to physically and mentally prepare for the role, which requires rigorous martial arts training," added the source.
Furthermore, the source revealed that Farhan had to pause Don 3's filming after Kiara, who had signed on to replace Priyanka Chopra as the female lead, became pregnant, leading to a halt in the film’s progress due to her changed circumstances.
Additionally, Farhan became occupied with his own acting commitments, particularly with the intense war film 120 Bahadur, in which he portrays Major Shaitan Singh.
Reportedly, Priyanka, who played the role of Roma in Don, might return for Don 3. However, an official confirmation is still awaited.
Filming for Don 3 is set to begin in January 2026, with the makers aiming for a theatrical release in December 2026.
Don starred Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Boman Irani in prominent roles. The film was released in 2006 and won Best Asian Film at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival. Later, its sequel was released in 2011 and was declared a hit.
The Farhan Akhtar directorial was a remake of 1978's Don, featuring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role.
