Dhadak 2 was announced last year with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, and it was slated to release in November 2024. However, the movie was pushed to 2025, and there were reports that it will hit the big screens during the Holi weekend this year. The festival is around three weeks away, but still the promotions of the movie have not yet started. Also, today, the makers of The Diplomat pushed their film by one week, so the John Abraham starrer will now release during the Holi weekend.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the content of Dhadak 2 has become an issue for the film in getting the certification from CBFC. A source told the portal, “Dhadak 2 deals with caste issues and is supposed to be a shocking tale. The Examining Committee (EC) of the CBFC applauded the makers for such a film. But due to its content, they are mulling over what rating should be given to the film and what scenes to be cut, if any.”
A trade expert told the portal that the makers Dhadak 2 want to complete censor process and then only they will start the promotions of the movie. So, if they get a clearance from CBFC, Dhadak 2 will release on March 14, or it will get postponed.
The surprising part here is that Dhadak 2 is a remake of Pariyerum Perumal, and the Tamil film didn't face any issue with CBFC. An insider stated, “Dhadak 2 makers must have made the same film as it’s the same story. When Pariyerum Perumal didn’t face any trouble, why is Dhadak 2 being subjected to harassment?”
When the motion poster of Dhadak 2 was released it had written on it, 'Ek tha raja, ek thi rani. Jaat alag thi khatam kahani." Even in the background we could see 'Dalit Lives Matter' written on it. So, there was a hint that the movie will be about two people falling in love from different castes.
Dhadak, which was released in 2018, was also on the same subject about a lower-caste boy falling in with an upper-caste girl. The Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter starrer was a remake of Marathi film Sairat.
Well, let's see whether the issues with CBFC will be solved soon and if Dhadak 2 will be able to release on March 14, 2025.
