Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s highly anticipated historical drama Chhaava finally hit theatres on Friday (February 14), generating a wave of mixed reactions from both fans and critics. Early viewers who attended the morning shows have taken to social media to express their opinions and reviews.

While many have showered praise on Vicky's powerful portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, others have applauded the film's breathtaking visuals and grand production scale. Several moviegoers said that the film’s historical action sequences and larger-than-life storytelling make it a spectacle best experienced on the big screen.

A section of social media users even went as far as calling Chhaava a 'cinematic masterpiece,' appreciating its impressive execution. However, some felt that the film’s runtime was slightly stretched, making certain portions feel slower than expected.

A user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), "The screenplay of #Chhaava lacks the excitement and energy that could have significantly enhanced the storytelling experience. LAG & Boring too."

Another review read, "THRILLS... RATING: 🌟🌟🌟🌟4.5/5 knocks it out of the ballpark once more. This poignant and uplifting narrative of Maratha king #ChhatrapatiSambhajiMaharaj will leave everyone with moisture in their eyes and pride in their soul. A visual delight everyone."

Take a look at some other reactions here:

Chhaava has undoubtedly sparked conversations among audiences, with its historical significance and visual grandeur. Whether it becomes a box office success remains to be seen, but it has certainly left a strong impression on moviegoers.

Apart from Vicky, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. While the actress will be seen as Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye will play the role of Mughal Shahenshah Aurangzeb.

Chhaava Controversy

The film was embroiled in a controversy after the trailer of the film was officially unveiled by the makers.

In one of the sequences in the trailer, Vicky and Rashmika's characters are seen performing lezim dance. A lot of people on social media and even some political leaders were upset with the portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Soon, the makers decided to delete the dance sequence from the film. Director Laxman Utekar also revealed in an official statement that he met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and upon his suggestion, he decided to cut the lezim scene from the film.
