Television czarina Ektaa Kapoor has now officially confirmed that her cult show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is all set for a reboot. And while she did not explicitly reveal if Smriti Irani will return as the iconic Tulsi Virani, she dropped a major hint, which sent the internet into a tizzy.
As per reports, Ektaa addressed the buzz around the return of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi at a recent event. She revealed that the reboot will only have 150 episodes and explained, "The love we have for this program brought everyone related to it back together to complete just those 150 episodes to reach that 2000-episode mark. This show deserves that."
And it was then that she dropped the bomb about Smriti Irani's return. While she did not answer in a yes or no, she quipped, "We are bringing politics into entertainment, or better, a politician into entertainment."
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ran for 8 long years and it ruled Indian television, making Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, Ronit Roy, Hiten Tejwani and others household names. Recently, reports had gone viral that Smriti and Amar have been approached to reprise their roles of Tulsi and Mihir Virani, however, both of them have remained tightlipped.
Recently, actor Hiten Tejwani, who played Karan Virani on the show, also revealed that talks about a season 2 of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi had happened a few years ago as well, but Smriti was busy back then.
"I believe six or seven years ago, there were discussions to bring it back, but Smriti was busy at that time, and it didn’t materialise," he shared.
The official announcement of the reboot is reportedly expected in June 2025.
