While the video left many viewers impressed, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) issued a statement following the launch of the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0, slamming ByteDance and alleging that the platform engaged in the unauthorised use of U.S. copyrighted works.
The statement read, "In a single day, the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorized use of U.S. copyrighted works on a massive scale. By launching a service that operates without meaningful safeguards against infringement, ByteDance is disregarding well-established copyright law that protects the rights of creators and underpins millions of American jobs. ByteDance should immediately cease its infringing activity."
The video was posted two days ago by Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson, who received an Oscar nomination for a short film in 2002. Reacting to it, screenwriter Rhett Reese (Deadpool & Wolverine, Zombieland) re-shared Tom and Brad’s viral video on X and wrote, "I hate to say it. It’s likely over for us."
Among the viral clips attributed to Seedance 2.0 are a Tom Cruise–Brad Pitt deepfake fight, altered footage from Avengers: Endgame, Optimus Prime taking on Godzilla, and a quirky Friends scene featuring Rachel and Joey as otters.
