In the first three months of 2026, January to March, around 23–24 Hindi films were released in theatres. While some of these movies were biggies like Border 2, Dhurandhar 2, O Romeo, and others, some were mid-budget and small films like Mardaani 3, Vadh 2, Tu Yaa Main, and more.
The year started with Ikkis. It was released on January 1, and the Agastya Nanda starrer failed to make a mark at the box office. According to Sacnilk, it collected Rs. 31.85 crore against the reported budget of Rs. 60 crore.
Later, some mid-budget and small films like Rahu Ketu, Happy Patel, and others were released, but they also became disasters at the box office. On January 23, the Sunny Deol starrer Border 2 was released; the film took the box office by storm. It collected Rs. 329.43 crore in India and became a hit at the box office.
After Border 2, all eyes were on Mardaani 3. The Rani Mukerji starrer was expected to perform very well at the box office, but it did a disappointing business and collected around Rs. 51 crore in India. While the collection is better than the previous two parts, reportedly, part 3 was made on a budget of Rs. 60 crore.
Movies like Vadh 2, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, Mayasabha, Gandhi Talks, and a couple of more small films were released, and they failed to create any buzz.
After Mardaani 3, all eyes were on the Shahid Kapoor starrer O Romeo. But the film flopped at the box office, as it collected only Rs. 72.89 crore against its reported budget of Rs. 125–150 crore. Along with O Romeo, Tu Yaa Main was also released, and even though the Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav starrer was made on a budget of Rs. 20 crore, it flopped and collected only Rs. 7.31 crore at the box office.
The Taapsee Pannu starrer Assi is undoubtedly one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year. But the movie also tanked at the box office. It collected Rs. 11.44 crore against the reported budget of Rs. 40 crore.
The Kerala Story 2 didn't become a blockbuster like its first part. But still, the film performed well at the box office. The movie collected Rs. 52 crore, and it was made on a budget of around Rs. 30 crore. So, it is a profitable venture for its makers.
And finally, on March 19, Dhurandhar The Revenge was released in theatres. The movie took the box office by storm, broke records, and became the highest-grossing Bollywood film. In 14 days, the Ranveer Singh starrer has collected Rs. 899.92 crore at the box office in India, and it is expected that Dhurandhar 2 will break more records and become the highest-grossing Indian film. So, let's wait and watch.
There were many other films like Azad Bharath, Bihu Attack, One Two Cha Cha Chaa, Human Cocaine, Paro Pinaki Ki Kahani, and others, that were released in theatres without any buzz and failed to make a mark at the box office.
