It was a casual and fun atmosphere at the launch of Anupam Kher's latest book at Crossword Bookstore in Juhu, Different But No Less, based on the making of his recently released film, Tanvi The Great, which he has co-written, produced, directed and acted in. Tanvi, in the movie, is based on Kher's niece, who is on the autistic spectrum.
Kher's lineup for lunch was an enviable one- Mahesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Amish Tripathi, and others. Among the several attendees were also actor Gajraj Rao and Juhi Babbar.
During his opening speech for Kher, along with the book and the movie, Boman said, "This comes under the bracket of an art house film, which is supposed to be released conservatively in a few theatres. But nothing in Anupam's head is small. He had the belief while writing it, executing it, finding money to produce it and finding money to to travel the world too. Who has the guts to do something like that? It's very scary. We are here simply because we don't want this legacy of Tanvi The Great to end, and that even 20 years from now people should have conversations about it."
There were also quite a few jokes cracked about how Kher is close to Robert De Niro, who had also attended the film’s premiere and how only he can call him Bob. De Niro had also told Shubhangi, who plays Tanvi in the films that she was 'terrific'.
Boman also spoke about how for the promotion of the film they travelled everywhere from Cannes to London to Delhi, where they met Draupadi Murmu, the President of India, during a special screening.
