Global sensation Ed Sheeran had a rather embarrassing moment in Bengaluru on Sunday morning as local cops failed to recognise him during his impromptu jamming session on Church Street. Videos have gone viral showing an angry cop unplugging his mic and stopping his performance midway.

It all began after Sheeran surprised his fans with an impromptu jamming session on Church Street on Sunday, a day after his jampacked concert in the city. In a video that has now gone viral, the singer can be seen singing 'Shape Of You' while playing his guitar, and the crowd went wild seeing the popstar jamming right in the middle of a random street.

And while Sheeran won the hearts of the fans, he clearly failed to impress the local cops, who interrupted his performance and unplugged his microphone. The cops seemingly did not recognise the 'Perfect' singer, and one of the officers was seen reprimanding Sheeran's team member and the singer himself for jamming on the street without permission.

The singer looked visibly awkward and upset over the incident and before walking away, told his fans that his team did take permission for the gig, "but the policeman was shutting it down". His fans too outraged on social media, slamming Bengaluru Police.

"India is not for beginners-level infinity (sic)," a user wrote on X, while another stated, "Was out for a Sunday breakfast and stumbled into an impromptu #EdSheeran performance at Church street. Only for the plug to be abruptly pulled by Bangalore police. BLR really does have surprises at every corner (sic)."

However, the cops later issued a statement: "Our primary concern is the safety of both the artist and the public. Unauthorized gatherings can pose significant challenges in crowd management and security."

On February 8, Sheeran performed in Bengaluru as part of his +-=÷x Tour, during which he crooned some of his global chartbusters. He will now proceed to Shillong for his concert on February 12, and he will conclude his India Tour with the final concert on February 15 in Delhi.
