During the hearing of Ranveer Allahbadia's plea on Monday, the Supreme Court took a dig at comedian Samay Raina's recent comments at his shows in Canada in the midst of the ongoing India's Got Latent row. The SC indirectly Samay "oversmart" and warned him of stringent action.
As the apex court heard Ranveer's plea, Justice Surya Kant said, "These youngsters are being oversmart...they think we are an outdated generation probably."
Without taking names, he went on to say, "One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there. They don't know the jurisdiction which this Court enjoys and what probably can be done. We don't want to because they are young, we understand. Behave, or else we know how to deal with you."
For those unversed, Samay has been in Canada for his live shows ever since the India's Got Latent controversy erupted in India. During one of his shows in February, the comedian had thanked the audience for paying his lawyer's fees by purchasing his tickets.
He also cracked a joke over the controversy at one of his shows and said, "Iss show pe bahut mauka ayega, jahan aapko lag sakta hai ki main bahot funny kuch bol sakta hoon, par tab Beerbiceps ko yaad kar lena bhai... Shayad samay kharab chal raha hai mera, par yaad rakhna doston, main samay hoon."
Meanwhile, after the controversy, multiple FIRs were filed against Samay and Ranveer, the former has sought time till March 17 due to his prior commitments to appear before the authorities and record his statement.
In the meantime, he has deleted all episodes of India's Got Latent from his YouTube channel. "Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you (sic)," he wrote in his sole statement on the controversy.
As the hearing concluded on Monday, the SC allowed Ranveer Allahbadia to resume his podcast on YouTube, provided he maintains the morality standards and decency of his content.
