Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run case in Guwahati. The arrest was made after the 21-year-old victim, Samiul Haque, succumbed to his injuries late Monday night (July 28), Guwahati Police confirmed.
In a statement to NDTV, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, said, "We arrested actor Nandini Kashyap today in connection with the hit-and-run case. With the victim’s death, the charges have been upgraded, and she will be produced before a local court."
The incident occurred around 3 am on July 25 in the city’s Dakhingaon area. Haque, a student at Nalbari Polytechnic and part-time worker with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), was reportedly returning home after completing a light installation project when he was struck by a speeding Mahindra Scorpio.
According to media reports, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts suggest that the vehicle was being driven by Nandini, who allegedly fled the scene without attempting to assist the injured man.
According to police sources, Haque’s coworkers chased the SUV and later traced it to a residential complex in Kahilipara. There, Nandini reportedly attempted to conceal the vehicle. Videos showing a heated confrontation between the actor and GMC workers surfaced soon after and quickly went viral on social media.
Reports have also stated that Haque had sustained severe head injuries, multiple fractures in both legs, and broken bones in his thigh and arm. His family claimed that although Nandini had initially promised to bear Haque’s medical expenses, she failed to follow through and did not extend any financial help or support thereafter.
While the police had initially questioned the actress and seized her vehicle, she was not arrested at the time, as the case was filed under bailable sections. However, following Haque’s death, the investigation took a more serious turn.
Nandini is currently enjoying the success of her latest box office hit Rudra.
