Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt opened up about the failure of her last film Jigra and stated that post its release, she has got a new perspective on her career aspirations and reignited her passion for her work.
The versatile actress said during her podcast with Jay Shetty that her setbacks have fuelled her desire to push forward. She stated, "I'm a very passionate actor, professional, producer. I have dreams with regard to my work, which I don't think ever end. I don't think I'm ever comfortable, and I really like that about my mind."
Reflecting on the impact of Jigra's performance, Alia admitted, "I had a film released last year that didn't do really well, and that's given me a new vigor for a new dream to try and do over. It’s something I feel very charged by."
Taking the blame for the box office failure of Jigra, director Vasan Bala had said in an interview, "The box office let us down. As a director, if 100 per cent faith is put on me in every department of the creatives then box office also needs to be taken care of by me. In that department, it’s clearly a letdown on my front."
Jigra controversies
Soon after Jigra released in theatres in October 2024, it was in news for the wrong reasons. The film got embroiled in a controversy after actress Divya Khossla accused the makers of Jigra of manipulating the film's box office numbers. She had also accused them of copying her film Savi.
Besides being accused of plagiarism, the casting team of Jigra was also slammed by Manipuri actor Bijou Thaangjam for 'unprofessional behaviour' and 'discrimination' towards actors from Northeast India.
In Jigra, Alia's character plays the role of Satya, who is on a mission to save her younger brother Ankur (Vedang Raina), who is imprisoned in a foreign jail.
Along with directing Jigra, Bala also co-wrote it with Debashish Irengbam. The film was produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Alia, Shaheen Bhatt and Soumen Mishra under Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions.
