Tamil actor Karthi recently suffered a leg injury while filming his upcoming movie Sardar 2. The incident occurred during the shoot of some crucial sequences in Mysuru. Following the accident, Karthi was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors assessed the severity of his injuries.
According to media reports, Karthi has been advised to take a week-long rest to ensure proper recovery. In light of the medical advice, the makers of Sardar 2 decided to halt the shoot and return to Chennai. The production will resume once Karthi is fully recovered and fit to continue.
The actor has not shared his health update yet. Further details about his hospitalisation are also awaited.
The team of Sardar 2 had recently wrapped up shooting the film's climax on a lavish set at a film studio in Chennai. The current schedule featured Karthi and SJ Suryah, who participated in a high-octane action sequence choreographed by stunt coordinator Chethan Ramshi D'Souza from Aavesham.
Directed by PS Mithran, Sardar 2 is set to feature Karthi in dual roles, with the storyline reportedly spanning two different time periods. The film went on floors in mid-2024 and was expected to be completed in a few weeks before the unforeseen delay.
The highly anticipated sequel will see Karthi and Rajisha Vijayan reprising their roles from the original, while SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, and Ashika Ranganath will join the cast in pivotal roles. With nearly 80 per cent of the film already completed, the team plans to get back to work soon, pending Karthi and the producers' approval.
Stuntman's death on sets of Sardar 2
In July 2024, Ezhumalai, a stuntman, died on the sets of Sardar 2 on Wednesday. Reportedly, he had suffered a fatal fall amid the shoot of an action sequence. He succumbed to his injuries. The cause of his death was said to be internal haemorrhage.
The shoot of Sardar 2 commenced on July 15, however, it was halted after the shocking and unfortunate accident.
Sardar 2 was officially launched by the makers with a puja on July 12 in Chennai. The event was attended by Karthi, Shivakumar, PS Mithran and others.
Sardar, directed by PS Mithran, starred Karthi in dual roles. It was released in 2022. The spy thriller garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
The official release date of its sequel is yet to be announced by the makers.
