Kolkata: After IMD had issued a circular stating that there will be heat waves like situation in several districts of South Bengal and few districts of North Bengal, the West Bengal state government on Thursday had issued a circular mentioning that school vacations have been preponed due to the weather conditions.
“Due to the heat wave and prevailing situation, it is advised to declare summer vacation in the schools under your administrative control with effect from May 2, until further instructions except for the schools in hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, where the existing academic schedule will continue until further order. The teaching and non-teaching staff will also remain on leave as a special case during the period or till the schools reopen. However, the teaching / non-teaching staff of schools shall make suitable arrangements for conducting extra classes after re-opening of the schools to compensate for the loss due to early closure of schools as stated above, in the interest of the students,” read the state government circular.
According to the IMD bulletin, dry weather is very likely to prevail over the districts of West Bengal during April 12-16. Maximum temperature as of now above normal by 3-5ºC over the region. It is further expected to rise during the next 5 days.
