In a daring act of self-defence, a schoolgirl from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, was seen publicly beating a man who had been harassing her for days. The entire incident was captured on video, which has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise for the girl’s courage.
According to media reports, the girl was reportedly continually harassed by the accused while commuting to school. Fed up with the ongoing eve-teasing despite repeated warnings, the student finally took a stand. She slapped the man several times and thrashed him with her slippers in the middle of the road. The video shows her grabbing the accused by his collar, verbally confronting him, and even using a brick to hit him in full public view.
The incident occurred in the Poni Road locality under Gangaghat Kotwali police area in Unnao. The girl can be seen visibly enraged in the video, hurling strong abuses at the man as she punishes him for his behaviour. A crowd gathered quickly at the spot, and the accused was eventually handed over to the police.
Akash, a water-supply e-rickshaw driver who is a resident of Brahmanagar, Gangaghat. The girl has opted not to file the FIR against the accused, according to the Unnao police media cell. For this reason, he was booked under Section 151 of the CrPC (prevention of breach of peace) and a challan was issued to him, as per the media reports.
The video clip has created a storm of support online, with internet users praising the girl for her courage in confronting harassment. Numerous people have described her act as "brave" and "an example for others," demanding that such a thing should not be accepted by anyone.
