Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has renamed five state-run engineering colleges after national personalities and historical figures, aiming to reshape the technical education landscape with a focus on cultural and moral values, officials said on Saturday.

About The Decision

The move, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and approved by Governor Anandiben Patel, seeks to integrate technical education with ideals such as social awareness, justice, harmony and nation-building, the state government said in a statement.

Describing the initiative as a "historic step to instill values in the new generation", Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel said the renamed institutions would inspire students to pursue both technical excellence and social leadership.

According the statement, Rajkiya Engineering College, Pratapgarh has been renamed Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Rajkiya Engineering College; Rajkiya Engineering College, Mirzapur to Samrat Ashoka Rajkiya Engineering College and Rajkiya Engineering College, Basti will now be known as Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rajkiya Engineering College.

It added that Rajkiya Engineering College, Gonda has been renamed Maa Pateshwari Devi Rajkiya Engineering College and Rajkiya Engineering College, Mainpuri will now be called Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Rajkiya Engineering College.

"These names will serve as a source of inspiration, encouraging students to imbibe the ideals of these great personalities," Patel said.

He added that the move goes beyond symbolism and will help foster a sense of self-confidence and responsibility among students.

In the coming times, these institutions will prepare the youth of Uttar Pradesh not only with technical expertise but also for roles in social leadership, he said.
