New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice stating that the process for the submission of the data to the QS World Rankings 2027 has officially been initiated. The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has requested the higher education institutions in the country to submit the necessary information, such as the sustainability information, to the QS Hub Portal qs-hub2.qs.com by April 12, 2026, to ensure proper representation in the rankings.
The notice has clearly stated the importance of the accurate and timely submission of the information by the higher education institutions in the country. Institutions willing to participate in the rankings must adhere to the stipulated deadline. This move has been taken to further increase the visibility of the universities in the country on the international stage.

The QS World University Rankings, published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) through topuniversities.com, are among the most prestigious international rankings for higher education institutions. QS evaluates universities through a three-tier system, including a global overall ranking, subject-wise rankings across 51 disciplines and five faculty areas, and five independent regional tables covering Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, the Arab Region, and BRICS nations.
Evaluation Process
QS rankings are determined using a set of measurements called lenses, indicators, and metrics. A lens is a general theme like research or employability, while an indicator is a particular aspect of the same, like student-faculty ratio or reputation, among others. Metrics are precise calculations within each of these indicators, which help in comparing universities in an unbiased manner. Weightage scores for all these help in a holistic evaluation of all the participating universities.
The UGC’s notice also brings out the importance of international recognition for Indian universities and urges all the participating universities to ensure that the information provided is the most accurate.
