Miss India 2022, Sini Shetty, will soon represent the country at the world stage as she prepares herself for the Miss World 2022 pageant. The 21-year-old Mumbai girl, who hails from the state of Karnataka, talked to the Free Press Journal about her passion for walking the ramp since school days, training and mentoring, balancing the journey with academics, and much more. Excerpts from the interview :
Did you dream of walking the ramp since your school days? Did participating in extracurricular activities in school and college prepare you for your career?
In school, I was the most active kid. So even if it was any extracurricular activity, dance, fashion, walking the ramp, or doing something creative out there, I was the one kid who was always involved in those things. It was something I probably had in me all along but then you have your academics in front of you, job, etc, which might have led to my dream getting lost somewhere initially. My life took a turn of events when I started modelling, and dancing professionally. The opportunity to fill the form for Miss India 2022 came across eventually, which revived my dream of walking the ramp as a kid.
Do you think modelling and pageant schools are necessary for individuals who want to pursue a career in the same?
Not really but training and grooming yourself are necessary. I believe that me coming from an academic career in accountancy and totally switching paths and getting into modelling and pageantry was a short journey but at the end of the day training and dedication are necessary. You need the proper guidance and mentorship to win the crown but to enter a pageant you need to be confident.
How can students, who want to make it big in modelling, sustain their academic career as well? How did you manage to multitask?
I think hustle is the keyword here. I think if you manifest the words hustle, tenacity and hard work, it is possible to achieve great things. There’s a thin line to finding the balance between your professional life and your academic life. For me, Modelling was days and nights of work but if you are interested in balancing both those phases of life, you can and should definitely do it.
Any advice for younger students who wish to pursue modelling?
My advice for the youth is to always find meaning in their life.
