Due to continuous rain since early Monday, several areas in Gujarat, especially Surat, saw waterlogging and traffic delays. The Surat district government asked kids to stay at home for safety reasons and declared a holiday for all schools.

According to the Lokmat Times report, between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m., Surat received more than 7 inches of rain. Online videos showed people walking along flooded streets and automobiles moving slowly through different parts of the city.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) had declared an orange alert in districts like Surat, Valsad, Jamnagar, and Junagadh, indicating even heavier rain. A yellow alert was issued in cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana, where moderate rain is expected.

According to the Gandhinagar-based State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), rain fell in 33 districts and 165 talukas throughout the course of the last day. Mendarda taluka in Junagadh reported about 6 inches, as reported by Lomat Times.

Authorities have requested residents in low-lying regions to exercise caution and not to go outdoors except when necessary. Most public transportation routes were impacted in areas of the state.

The IMD has also put additional districts such as Amreli, Bhavnagar, Navsari, and Vadodara on the orange alert list. Citizens are recommended to look for updates frequently and adhere to safety guidelines since rain is likely to persist.
