'Punjabi And Other Regional Languages Will Continue To Be Offered In The Next Academic Year': CBSE Board

In an addendum to the draft of its policy for two board exams of Class X release, the board clarified that the list of other subjects and languages contained in the draft date sheet of February 25, 2025, is only indicative and that all the subjects and languages as offered presently shall continue to be offered for the academic year 2025-2026 as well.

Responding to rumours that Punjabi and some other regional languages are being removed from its curriculum, the Central Board of Secondary Education has clarified that the languages currently offered in the board examinations will continue to be offered in the next academic year. 

In an addendum to the draft of its policy for two board exams of Class X release, the board clarified that the list of other subjects and languages contained in the draft date sheet of February 25, 2025, is only indicative and that all the subjects and languages as offered presently shall continue to be offered for the academic year 2025-2026 as well.Thus, in addition to the languages mentioned under the list of languages in point 8 of the draft policy under the heading "Regional and Foreign languages group", Punjabi, Russian, Nepali, Limboo, Lepcha, Sindhi, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, Kannada, Kokborok, Telugu, Arabic, and Persian, shall continue to be offered.

Bal Malkit Singh, executive chairman of Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Government of Maharashtra, said there has been confusion regarding the status of the Punjabi language in CBSE board exams, with rumours circulating on social media claiming its removal from the list of regional and foreign languages.

"We have verified this matter directly with CBSE, and it has been officially confirmed that ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐ง๐จ ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐›๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐. Punjabi, along with all other existing subjects, will ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐›๐ž ๐š๐ฏ๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž in the upcoming board examinations.We urge students, parents, and the community ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐›๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ฏ๐ž ๐ข๐ง ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ง๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and to rely only on official CBSE notifications. The board has clearly stated that ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ฃ๐š๐›๐ข ๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ ๐š๐ง ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฆ," said Singh
