Operation Sindoor: Schools Closed Across J&K, Rajasthan & Punjab Amid Ongoing Tensions Between India & Pakistan

Schools and colleges in Jammu, Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab have been closed due to rising India-Pakistan tensions after India's missile strikes under Operation Sindoor.

Schools and universities across multiple border regions have been instructed to stay closed on Thursday, May 8, as a precaution against the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. This follows stepped up security on account of the India missile strike targeting terror camps inside Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in Operation Sindoor.

Here's a list of the affected regions:

Jammu & Kashmir:

- Jammu Division: All the government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the five border districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch have been shut down until further notice.

- Kashmir Division: Institutions in Baramulla, Kupwara, Gurez, Awantipora, and in the vicinity of Srinagar Airport have also been closed for security reasons.

Rajasthan:

- Jodhpur: All the schools have been instructed shut down from May 8 until further instructions.

- Other Districts: Schools in Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Jaisalmer have also been ordered to close. Staff members are still required to report for job, although tests have been rescheduled.

Punjab:

- Border Districts: Ferozepur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Fazilka schools are closed for 72 hours, from May 7.

Precautions and relief efforts

According to the local media Kashmir Life reports, authorities are establishing shelters and offering relief to the residents of vulnerable areas. People residing in border regions are being shifted out, and makeshift shelters are being established for their protection. Deputy Commissioners have been directed to ensure the supply of food, medical relief, transport, and security.
