Mumbai: The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Mumbai University has launched an initiative, urging girl students to donate their ponytails to create wigs for cancer patients who lose their hair during medical treatment.

This aims to ease the emotional trauma that often accompanies hair loss, which impacts a person’s confidence and sense of self, particularly for women. The hair donation event is scheduled for February 15, 2025, between 9.30am and 11.30am at Azad Maidan.

Organised in collaboration with the HindAyan Foundation, the event highlights the importance of addressing the distress caused by hair loss, which often discourages women from undergoing cancer treatment. Wigs, while helpful in restoring normalcy, are prohibitively expensive for many patients, making initiatives like these crucial.

In a letter, Sushil Shinde, NSS Coordinator at Mumbai University, stated, “Anyone who wishes to donate their hair can contribute to making wigs for cancer patients.”
