Mumbai: To Resolve Student Grievances, MU To Hold 'Student Interaction' Session On December 17

Students attending the session have been advised to bring their university identification cards and complaint forms to ensure their issues can be processed efficiently.

Mumbai: The University of Mumbai will conduct a 'Student Interaction' session on 17 December 2024 to address student grievances and provide resolutions for issues such as examination results and academic documentation. The session will take place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bhavan (New Examination Building) on the Vidyanagari campus between 11 am and 12:30 pm.  

This event forms part of the university’s ongoing initiative to improve communication between students and its administration. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ravindra Kulkarni, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Ajay Bhamare, and senior officials, including Dr Pooja Roundale, Director of the Examination and Evaluation Board, will be present to address students’ concerns directly.

Students attending the session have been advised to bring their university identification cards and complaint forms to ensure their issues can be processed efficiently. Common grievances include delays in results, revaluation errors, withheld mark sheets, and problems related to degree certificates. The session will also enable students to raise their concerns which are not related to academics. The university claims that previous sessions under this initiative have successfully resolved a large number of complaints, providing relief to many students. 

The 'Student Interaction' programme is held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, with the next session scheduled for 27 December 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. This regular schedule underscores the university’s commitment to making grievance redressal an accessible and structured process.

However, some students believe that while these sessions are useful, they do not address underlying systemic problems. “The sessions are helpful, but what we really need are permanent solutions to recurring issues such as delayed results and inconsistent communication,” a student from a suburban college told the Free Press Journal.  

As the University of Mumbai continues its outreach efforts, it remains to be seen whether this initiative will lead to meaningful, long-term improvements in addressing students' concerns.
