Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) on Tuesday announced that the technology innovation hub (TIH) at the institute will be funding seven academic research works with a total grant of Rs10 crore, alongside providing technical development support and lab-to-market guidance to the researchers of these projects. Each of the project will receive between Rs1-2 crore, a university official tod the Free Press Journal.
The decision came after IIT-B on Monday hosted ATMAN 2.0, an event dedicated for innovators, researchers and leaders from India's top institutions to showcase groundbreaking Agri-IoT translational research on January 6, 2025.
The event witnessed the participation of deeptech academic researchers from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Banaras Hindu University, National Institute of Technology Warangal, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur, among others.
More than 20 deeptech research projects from across the country participated in the expo and the research grant funding pitch fest. The event saw a creation of a corpus of Rs 10 crore, the institute said in a statement.

Commenting on the occasion, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said, “ATMAN 2.0 represents a major stride in advancing innovation, bridging labs to markets. It underscores our commitment to transforming academic research into impactful solutions for national progress.”
Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation) at IIT-B, said, “ATMAN 2.0 aims to bridge the gap between academic innovation and industry, a proud milestone for our institute. Over 10 industries, including Poonawala Fincorp, Tata Communications, Jio, Tata Chemicals, L&T, among others, participated in the event that also featured promising Agritech startups.
