Mumbai: Maharashtra Minority Commission Chairman, Pyare Khan, has announced that complaint boxes will be installed in all minority schools across the state. This decision follows recent raids conducted by the commission at two government-aided Urdu schools in Akola district in response to serious complaints.
The raids were prompted by allegations of physical and sexual harassment against the secretary of an Urdu school in Akola. Female teachers accused him of sexual exploitation and provided evidence to the commission to support their claims.
In addition to these allegations, teachers raised concerns about financial misconduct, stating that they were forced to pay Rs 40 lakh in cash for appointments. Appointed teachers also alleged that 30 to 40 per cent of their salaries were being forcibly deducted. Furthermore, several retired teachers revealed that a significant portion of their pensions was being withheld.
Khan urged members of the minority community, NGOs, and teachers to report such complaints directly to the commission. "We encourage teachers and concerned individuals to come forward. The installation of complaint boxes will provide a confidential channel for grievances to be addressed," he said.
Additionally, Khan announced that a statewide survey of minority schools would be conducted to assess their quality and ensure compliance with regulations.
He also met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking a thorough investigation into the complaints received during his inspection tour. "The Chief Minister has taken the matter seriously and has immediately ordered an in-depth probe into all these concerns," Khan stated.
Furthermore, the government is considering a new policy for madrasas and minority schools to enhance educational standards. "We are exploring the integration of mathematics, geography, and science alongside religious education to ensure the holistic development of children in minority institutions," Khan added.
