Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil Unveils ‘Avadhan,’ A Film On Special Education

Mumbai: The short film ‘Avadhan’, produced by Hashu Advani College of Special Education under Chembur Colony Yuvak Mandal, was inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil at his official residence, Sinhagad, on Thursday. The film highlights the challenges faced by students with learning disabilities, the education they receive, and society’s role in supporting them.

The event was attended by Director of Higher Education Dr Shailendra Dewlankar, Principal of Hashu Advani College of Special Education Dr Asmita Huddar, Associate Professors Dr Gayatri Shirur and Dr Amit Misal, Assistant Professors Nisha Kutty and Poonam Mishra, and representatives of Uttamchand Lehrchand Trust Foundation, Kabir Bhogilal and Nikhil Patil.

Through ‘Avadhan’, awareness is raised about recognising the symptoms of learning disabilities and the importance of monitoring children's development. The film serves as a guide for teachers, parents, and society on identifying and addressing such challenges. Notably, veteran actor Nana Patekar has lent his voice to this animated film.

During the event, discussions were also held on establishing a centre for persons with disabilities in universities to enhance inclusivity in higher education.
