Kottayam (Kerala): A portion of the Government Medical College Hospital here collapsed on Thursday, injuring two people, officials said.

They have been admitted to the hospital's casualty department, they said. Their injuries are reported to be non-serious.

Health Minister Veena George and Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan visited the site after being informed of the collapse.

They said that the section that fell was an unused toilet area of the building that housed three wards.

Following the incident, around 100 patients were safely relocated to other areas as a precaution.

The collapsed area is part of the bathroom complex of the three-storey building.

Police and fire services have launched an operation to determine whether anyone is trapped in the debris.
