A controversy erupted in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district after a gruesome outbreak at a private school at the time of a science exhibition. A video that quickly went viral showed a student making offensive religious remarks, questioning the sort of education being imparted at schools.
In the video, the student presented two dolls: one in a burqa and another in a short dress. The doll covered in the burqa was placed in a coffin filled with flowers, and the doll in short clothes was placed in a coffin with snakes and scorpions. The student claimed, "If you wear a burqa, nothing to the body happens after death. But if you wear short clothes, you will go to hell, and snakes and scorpions will eat the body."
She further added, "The advantage of purdah is that a woman is not visible to men and vice versa. A woman living without purdah, and a husband not objecting, are not suiting each other. Any man who lets his wife live without purdah is a 'dayyus', and Allah never accepts the prayer of such a person." It evoked strong outrage and many were amazed at how these views were being tolerated within a learning institution.
Social media users were quick to respond, tagging Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and the Director General of Police, demanding action and investigation at the earliest. Officials have since confirmed that an investigation is underway, as reported by India Today.
