India's First Centre For AI, Law & Regulation Launched At Jindal Global Law School

With an intention of putting India at the forefront of global conversations around the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), its Managing Partner Cyril Shroff, and O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) on Friday have jointly announced the launch of the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS).

Mumbai: With an intention of putting India at the forefront of global conversations around the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), its Managing Partner Cyril Shroff, and O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) on Friday have jointly announced the launch of the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS).

The announcement made, says that that since it is India’s first dedicated Centre of Excellence focused on the complex intersections between AI, law, policy, and regulation, this initiative is poised to become a hub for research, thought leadership, and policy development in the emerging domain of AI governance.

The Centre is supported through a major endowment by Mr. Cyril Shroff, the Managing Partner of CAM, one of the country’s foremost law firms.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Cyril Shroff said, “Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic idea—it is here, deeply embedded in the way we live, work, and govern. India has an opportunity to take a leadership role in developing ethical frameworks for AI policy and regulation. I am delighted to support this Centre at JGLS, which will become a platform for rigorous research and forward-looking policy engagement.”

He added that the Centre also commemorates ten years of CAM, which builds on a 108-year-old legacy of Amarchand Mangaldas. “The values of this firm—foresight, innovation, character, and ethical commitment—will be embodied in the Centre’s work,” he said.

Where as Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, claimed , “The Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation will lead national and international efforts to understand and regulate AI’s transformative impact on our societies. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Cyril Shroff for his visionary support.”

Some of the key objectives which were discussed in the meeting are that it will be likely acting as a policy advisory to regulatory bodies, also creating curriculum and executive education on AI and law. Also it is also looking forward to explore AI’s role in transforming legal practice and access to justice.
