Delhi University (DU) has officially apologised following a mistake in its undergraduate (UG) application form, referring to the situation as an "unintentional oversight." The university answered objections made by applicants as well as the general public regarding the mistakes in the application form, demonstrating its commitment to diversity and peace on campus.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), DU said, "The University of Delhi sincerely regrets the inadvertent error in its admission form. We acknowledge your concerns and are committed to addressing them. However, attributing ulterior motives to this entirely unintentional oversight is unwarranted. We request all, not to vitiate the University’s diverse and harmonious environment."

The university response comes after several students and stakeholders complained of inaccuracies in the application process, which drew controversy and speculation on social media. DU reassured the applicants that mitigation efforts are in progress and appealed to all to desist from spreading misinformation or assigning malice to the occurrence.

Applicants were shocked to discover that the Urdu language, which is constitutionally identified in India, was not mentioned in a recent form. In a shocking and controversial mistake, the form had "Muslim" listed as an option. Experts have condemned the mistake as being misleading and unconstitutional because it incorrectly equates religious affiliations with language.

Delhi University is offering 79 undergraduate programmes in 69 affiliated colleges and offering 71,624 seats. The students will get the facility of 186 B.A. Programme subject combinations. All admissions are being done through the CSAS (UG) portal, following the specified eligibility criteria given in the UG Bulletin of Information 2025.
