From the 2025–26 academic year onwards, all Delhi government schools will have to implement at least one English medium section in every class, as per a fresh order given by the Delhi government, as per the PTI report.

This step is taken after the growing demand from parents who want to see their children study in English. The main aim of the initiative is to give students stronger language skills, preparing them for future studies in science and technology, as well as career opportunities across the globe.

Admission to these English medium sections won't be automatic. Rather, students will be picked on the basis of their interest and aptitude so they can perform well in an English-instructed setting.

The order, given through a circular on Tuesday, reaffirms previous guidelines issued in 2014 and 2018. It specifically states that one section in each class will have to operate in English medium, with all subjects except regional languages taught in English.

To facilitate this shift, schools will be provided with suitable textbooks and study material, as per the quality norms sanctioned by the Delhi Government.

According to media reports, schools are also required to update government records and databases, such as the UDISE portal, with the changes. Regular checks by government authorities will ensure that the policy is effectively carried out and sustained in schools.
