CLAT UG 2025 Updates: On April 30, the Supreme Court granted an interim stay on the Delhi High Court's order to the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the CLAT-UG 2025 merit list. This has been done following claims of errors in certain question sets of the exam.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih passed the stay order during the hearing of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Delhi High Court's ruling handed down on April 23. Four questions in the B, C, and D sets of the test had flaws found by the High Court, which ordered that the affected candidates get marks and that the merit list be updated in four weeks. But the court did not grant the same advantage to students who had sat for the A set, declaring that it was error-free, according to the Live Law reports.
A candidate who attempted the A set and obtained an All India Rank of 22 is the petitioner who filed the SLP. She contended that the High Court's order unfairly disadvantaged A set candidates, undermining the principle of equal treatment by giving an edge to those who answered faulty question sets.
CLAT UG 2025: Factors Affecting CLAT Cutoff
Number of Candidates Appearing: Larger numbers of appearing candidates would generally increase competition, which would translate into higher cutoffs.
Availability of Seats in NLUs: Small intake of seats, especially in premier National Law Universities, will tend to increase the cutoff.
Difficulty Level of the Exam: A more challenging paper, as alleged in many legal petitions, would lead to lower cutoffs owing to decreased overall scores.
Reservation Categories: Cutoffs differ category-wise, with candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories usually having lower thresholds than the General category.
Performance of the Candidate Pool: The overall performance average and top scores is very important. A highly scoring group can push cutoffs up.
