A 40-year-old home guard, Suresh Kumar, has been arrested for allegedly extorting money and misbehaving with a college student in Bengaluru. Kumar, who was deployed at Sadashivanagar police station, was accused of barging into a rented accommodation of four college girls, claiming to be a crime branch officer.

According to a report in The Times of India, the whole incident took place around 1 am on 26 January, when Kumar knocked on the door of the rented house and was shouting that the police had arrived. The boy who had opened the door and Kumar barged into the house because he was complaining that they were creating a nuisance, as reported by TOI.

The students alleged that Kumar spoke ill of one of the girls, Ramya, and misbehaved with her. He also extorted Rs 5,000 from one of the students, Ramesh, who had been paying him money in installments for six months.

Ramesh identified that the person extorting money from him was Kumar, who had retrieved Ramya's number and residence address from his mobile phone. The students called the police control room at once, and Hoysala staff detained Kumar.

According to the TOI report, Kumar has been booked under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita including extortion and wrongful restraint.
