Mumbai : Setting a record of sorts, Kherwadi police arrested three people accused of murder, within three hours of the crime. They also seized a murder weapon which interestingly was a cycle.

The incident occurred in the early hours on Friday, January 1. The three accused identified as Ramesh Nishad (23) , Mukesh Nishad (21) and Raju Saket (18) were friends, with Ramesh and Mukesh being brothers. All of them resided in Dyaneshwar Nagar in Bandra. The victim is Mohd. Ali Nehmtullha Shaikh (27), a resident of Maharashtra Nagar.

On the day of the incident, Raju informed Ramesh that the victim, Shaikh had previously behaved very rudely with Mukesh. He further told him that the man had also threatened to beat Mukesh up after an argument. Enraged and in a drunker stupor, Ramesh asked Raju to take him to Shaikh’s house.

According to the police officers investigating the case, after reaching there, Ramesh found that Shaikh was not at home. He created a ruckus outside his house and also abused the neighbours and Shaikh’s wife and children. Mukesh who was present there tried to diffuse the tension and left the place with Raju and Ramesh.

On the way back, they bumped into Shaikh and when Raju pointed out to Ramesh that he was the man, Ramesh started beating him up and abusing him. Sources allege that one of them even bit Shaikh’s hand before hurling him to the ground.

“They repeatedly kicked him till he started bleeding. Then Raju and Ramesh, found a cycle lying on the road and started hitting Shaikh with it. They kept hitting him with the cycle causing injuries to various parts of the body,”said a senior officer at Kherwadi Police station.

The accused fled the scene when they saw people approaching them. Shaikh who was rushed to the hospital was declared dead on admission.

Kherwadi police after initial investigation set to work to catch the accused. They set up traps and with the help of their call records and tracking their mobile phone signals, apprehended all the three from near Bandra Railway station.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and remanded to police custody till January 6.
