CLW produces record 800 locomotives in FY25-26

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) created history by producing a record 800 electric locomotives in FY2025–26, the highest ever in a single financial year. Of the total, 600 locomotives were manufactured at the Chittaranjan unit and 200 at Dankuni. The 800th locomotive, along with new variants including WAP-5 Push-Pull and WAG-9 models, was flagged off by General Manager Mohit Chandra. CLW surpassed its previous record of 700 locomotives in FY2024–25, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest locomotive manufacturer under one establishment. The milestone comes amid Indian Railways’ push towards electrification, aimed at improving efficiency, reducing fuel costs, and lowering carbon emissions. Officials credited the achievement to sustained efforts of the workforce.

Earlier, on the day the 200th locomotive of this financial year was flagged off by Chandra from Dankuni Loco Works at Dankuni, which is the historical all time highest locomotive production from Dankuni so far in a single financial year, since its inception.

These achievements have reinforced CLW's position as the world's largest locomotive manufacturer under a same establishment. Addressing during the flagg off ceremony, Chandra congratulated all the dedicated, workaholic & devoted members of “Team CLW” and appreciated their relentless efforts, who successfully met the challenges & produced 800 locomotives during this Financial Year 2025-26. Their relentless commitment and perseverance have played a crucial role in reaching this stupendous achievement.
