Ujjain: In wake of cross border threats and China’s open support of Pakistan, the Union government had issued orders banning the sale off Chinese crackers in the country. However, all efforts of the local district bodies to curb any such sale have come to naught as wholesalers and retailers openly defy prohibitory orders by selling Chinese crackers with an Indian wrapping.
As the festival of lights, Diwali, draws close Chinese traders in collaboration with Indian sellers have succeeded in selling fire crackers with an Indian logo of popular brands like ‘Anil’ from Sivakasi.
These ‘duplicate’ crackers are noticeable as they havepictures and images of Chinese people on the packing, when in fact Indian brands never use images of foreigners to market their products. There are 9 big retailers in the city selling crackers worth crores of rupees across the district during the festival season
On being contacted by Free Press, ADM Avadhesh Sharma confirmed that they did have information with regard to the sale of duplicate crackers in the market. He said that wrappers of the so-called fake manufacturers would be seized and an offence would be registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The Copy Right Act would also be initiated after thorough investigation into the matter. According to him, an effective drive has been launched in the district to ensure the ban on Chinese crackers as well those dangerous crackers which are being produced indigenously and sold in the local markets.
