Prepare pollution control plan for city, commissioner tells MPPCB

Indore: Raghwendra Singh, divisional commissioner, has asked MP Pollution Control Board to prepare pollution control action plan for the city. He also directed the board to launch check drive against sale of adulterated petrol and diesel in the city. He gave these directions at a meeting of MP Pollution Control Board held under his chairmanship at his office on Wednesday.

Singh said RTO, IDA and Indore Municipal Corporation have important role in decreasing pollution. There is a need for investigation and action on adulterated diesel, petrol in the district. He said that e-rickshaw, e-bus and CNG-driven vehicles will be promoted as part of action plan. He further said 40 electronic buses will be operated by AICTSL in the city and 40 more electrical buses will reach city after two months. The prevalence of e-rickshaws is increasing gradually, which are helping in reducing the pollution. He said board should organise seminars at places, in which students and aware residents should be invited. Prevention of pollution is the responsibility of every person in the district.

There is a need to spread awareness and raise awareness. He said that administration must ensure strict action against those who avoid improper disposal of medical waste and chemical pollutants. There is need to kick-start a campaign against industrial units and vehicles, which contribute in spreading pollution. There is a need to run public campaign against vehicle pollution, industrial pollution, waste pollution, medical waste pollution, chemical pollution and water pollution in the district. Additional SP Mahendra Jain suggested that at least four new major bus stands should be constructed outside the city to reduce pollution and accidents in the city.

It is necessary to stop the entry of buses in the city. More than 400 buses daily ply on Indore- Bhopal route. It is necessary to build a bus stand outside the city on Bhopal Road. About 1600 buses arrive every day at Sarvate bus stand. At least 10 multi level parking are needed in the city. Also there is need to stop burning of crop residue and garbage. RK Gupta from MP Pollution Control Board, SP Yunus Khan, additional collector Kailash Wankhede also gave the suggestion. The meeting was attended by IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh, deputy commissioner Sapna Shivale, RTO RS Raghuvanshi and officials of Indian Oil Corporation.
