Indore : Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers’ Association has threatened to launch state-wide agitation if the government does not accept their demand for paying them salary recommended by seventh pay commission. They have also insisted on time bound promotions.
The association office bearers said they will meet chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan soon to place their demands after which they will resort to agitation if government fails to accept them.
Association president Dr Poonam Mathur said, “Our major demands include pay according to seventh pay commission, which has been given to several government employees.”
As for time bound promotion, she said that as per Medical Council of India norms, an assistant professor can be promoted as associate professor in four years while associate professor can become professor in three years. “But medical teachers in government institutions take about 20 years from being assistant professor to becoming professor,” she told Free Press.
The association has alleged that teachers who teach in government medical colleges do not get government share in their provident fund. “All these are the reasons why doctors do not join government services,” Dr Mathur said.
