Indore: Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has rejected the state government’s claim on land of Hukumchand Mills that was shut down more than two decades ago. The court observed that Indore Municipal Corporation is real owner of the mills land.
The court ruling is likely to speed up sale of the land, which will result in payment of pending due of thousands of mill ex-workers. Many years after it was shutdown, the court had ordered for selling its land and clearing dues of ex-workers. But land could not be sold due to dispute over ownership of the land.
On a petition in November last year, the Supreme Court had directed Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court to decide on ownership of the land so that way for clearing dues of ex-workers could be paved.
