Watch: Bank of China’s Hu Beihei and OIN’s Venkatesh Hariharan to talk about banking model in China at ‘The Future of Banking’

China is a step ahead in the case of banking today. The country started exploring the possibility of digital currency in 2014. It is reported that the country is in an advanced stage in this process. In the case of financial inclusion, digital banking in China played a pivotal role too.

India’s neighbour, China, made amazing strides in digital banking. It is time India takes a leaf from that learning.

To know how China supported its financial sector, the third session is organised on March 8 from 3pm onwards.


The session will have names like Hu Beihei, CEO, Bank of China, Mumbai, India, and Venkatesh Hariharan, the India representative for Open Invention Network.

Hariharan is the India representative for the Open Invention Network. He set up the Data Governance Network, a network of think-tanks, as Senior Fellow of the IDFC Institute before taking on his current role. Prior to that, he was Director Fintech for the Indian Software Product Industry Round Table (iSPIRT), that built Public Digital Infrastructure like IndiaStack. Hariharan has served as Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs with Google, and as Corporate Affairs Director for Red Hat in the Asia-Pacific region among other roles.

Before becoming India CEO of Bank of China, Beihei was previously the Deputy Country Head of Bank of China (BOC), Singapore Branch, overseeing the corporate lending, trade finance, global market and financial institutions. He joined BOC in July 1993 and served in different positions in corporate banking, trade finance and risk management. He has experience of working in BOC Hunan, BOC Headquarter and BOC Chongqing. In 2006, Hu joined the Bank of China Singapore Branch as Assistant Country Head.
