New Delhi: Four of India’s top-10 most valued companies lost a combined ₹87,960.29 crore in market capitalisation last week, as weakness in the stock market weighed on heavyweight shares. Bharti Airtel suffered the biggest decline among the leading firms.
The BSE Sensex fell 468.42 points, or 0.60%, during the week, while the NSE Nifty declined 114 points, or 0.46%.
Airtel leads the losses
Bharti Airtel’s market capitalisation fell by ₹28,052.96 crore to ₹12,14,963.15 crore, making it the biggest loser among the top-10 companies.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) saw its valuation decline by ₹22,070.34 crore to ₹8,31,436.51 crore.
State Bank of India (SBI) lost ₹20,861.20 crore in market value, taking its total valuation to ₹9,64,968.76 crore.
Hindustan Unilever’s market capitalisation dropped by ₹16,975.79 crore to ₹4,73,912.56 crore.
Market sentiment remained cautious amid high crude oil prices, rising global bond yields and continuing geopolitical uncertainty.
LIC leads gainers
Six companies among the top 10 managed to increase their valuations despite the weak broader market.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) emerged as the biggest gainer, adding ₹12,650 crore to take its market capitalisation to ₹5,35,980.31 crore.
Reliance Industries gained ₹8,119.53 crore, lifting its valuation to ₹17,78,175.59 crore.
Larsen & Toubro added ₹3,487.83 crore to reach ₹5,62,460.94 crore, while Bajaj Finance gained ₹3,424.28 crore, taking its valuation to ₹6,80,621.62 crore.
ICICI Bank’s market value rose ₹752.47 crore to ₹10,18,330.45 crore, while HDFC Bank added ₹356.95 crore to reach ₹11,21,159.05 crore.
Reliance remains India’s most valued firm
Reliance Industries retained its position as India’s most valued company. It was followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, LIC and Hindustan Unilever.
