Dr Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister, the former finance minister and the former RBI governor passed away at 21:51 IST on Thursday, December 27.
Gautam Adani Pays Tribute
The news first hit the air through a social media post from Priyanka Gandhi's spouse, Robert Vadra. Tributes have poured in since then. Adani Group's chief Gautam Adani took to X to pay his tribute to the late statesman and ace economist.
Gautam Adani, in a post shared on X, sometime after the news broke, said, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh. History will forever honour his pivotal role in the transformative 1991 reforms that reshaped India and opened its doors to the world."
More than his stint as the prime minister of India, a position he held for two terms over a decade, Singh is remembered by many for his tenure as the pioneering finance minister of the country.
'A Rare Leader'
As the South Asian nation with a large population was looking down the barrel of chaos, a much-needed change was pushed in. And Manmohan Singh, who was earlier the RBI governor was at the forefront of it all.
The newly appointed FM brought in the reforms, that liberalised and opened up an economy, that was dormant, and riddled with red tapes of all kinds.
Apart from the monumental work carried out, in different capacities, Singh was known, in fact, renowned for his gentle and benign demeanour. He was known was the gentle sardar.
Commenting on this aspect, Gautam Adani added, "A rare leader who spoke softly but achieved monumental strides through his actions, Dr Singh's life remains a masterclass in leadership, humility and service to the nation and will inspire generations to come."
Manmohan Singh served as the prime minister of the country from 2004 to 2014.
As per reports, his funeral is slated to happen on Saturday, December 28.
