New Delhi: The 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana will be released on August 2, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the main event in Varanasi. Under this installment, more than 9.7 crore farmers across India will receive Rs 2,000 directly into their bank accounts, through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The total amount to be distributed in this round is around Rs 20,500 crore, making it one of the largest-ever single-day support payments to farmers in India.
Event to Be Celebrated Nationwide
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the preparations in a high-level meeting held on Wednesday. He urged farmers to attend local events at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), agricultural universities, market yards, ICAR institutes, and village panchayats to witness the live event and the Prime Minister’s address.
In his video message, Chouhan said, “On August 2, at exactly 11 AM, Prime Minister Modi will release the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi funds directly to your bank accounts. Please attend the nearest programme in your area and listen to the PM’s address.”
He encouraged farmers and local leaders like Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, and Gram Panchayat heads to participate and ensure wide engagement.
A Festival for Farmers
Calling it not just a scheme, but a “mission and festival,” Chouhan emphasized the importance of celebrating such farmer-centric initiatives. He also noted that the event is a good opportunity to discuss the Kharif crop season and ongoing agricultural issues with the farming community.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and ICAR Director General Dr. M.L. Jat, who pledged full support in making the event successful at the grassroots level.
PM-KISAN Scheme
The PM-Kisan scheme is one of the world’s largest and most transparent government-to-farmer benefit transfers and has been a critical financial support system for millions of farming families across India. This scheme was Launched on February 2, 2019, the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi provides Rs 6,000 per year to eligible farmer families in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 every four months. The money is directly transferred to their bank accounts under the DBT system.
So far, a total of Rs 3.69 lakh crore has been disbursed under the scheme over 19 installments.
