Yashodhan Wanage, Dy. Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust, inaugurating the Bus Service. In a bid to improve the overall quality of its services to the trade, Mumbai Port Trust has introduced bus service within its Indira Dock precinct from 10.6.2015 in collaboration with the BEST.
Four buses will operate daily at the time of commencement of shifts between the labor booking point at Yellow Gate, Indira Dock and Port’s deep drafted berths at BPS/BPX and 18 Indira Dock and Harbour Wall Berths transporting around 600 dock workers to their work spots.
Provision of this service would reduce the average commuting time of forty-five minutes from the booking point to the point of work to about five minutes. This saving in worker’s reporting time will reduce the idle time of ship at berth, improve ship berth day output, reduce ships’ turnaround time and bring about an overall reduction in berth occupancy in the Port thereby enhancing the Port’s productivity, informed the Chairman Mumbai Port Trust, Ravi Parmar.
