Mother Dairy Hikes Up Milk Prices By ₹ 2; Procurement Costs To Blame

The early onset of heatwave conditions is the cause behind the Rs 2 price hike. The Rs 2 price hike is also responsible for the rise in procurement costs, which have increased by Rs 4-5 per litre over the past few months. A company spokesperson stated, "We remain committed to ensuring the consistent availability of quality milk to consumers while supporting the livelihoods of our farmers."

Mother Dairy has increased the price of its liquid milk by up to Rs 2 per litre, effective from April 30,2025, nearly a year after it last raised prices.

Mother Dairy stated that the price revision is necessary due to a significant rise in procurement costs, which have increased by Rs 4-5 per litre over the past few months.

"We remain committed to ensuring the consistent availability of quality milk to consumers while supporting the livelihoods of our farmers. This revision represents only a partial pass-through of the increased costs, aiming to equitably serve the interests of both farmers and consumers," a company spokesperson said.

The early onset of summer and heatwave conditions mainly drives this surge in procurement prices. Full cream milk will cost Rs 69 per litre, up from Rs 68, while cow milk will cost Rs 59 per litre and Rs 30 for half a litre. Meanwhile, its Premium Full Cream Milk (Ultra) will now cost Rs 39 for half a litre.

Following the hike, one litre of toned milk will cost Rs 57, while half a litre will cost Rs 29 in the Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand markets.

Mother Dairy sells around 35 lakh litres of milk per day in the Delhi-NCR market. Mother Dairy's price hike comes a month after the Karnataka Milk Federation's Nandini also raised milk prices by nearly Rs 5.

Heritage Foods also informed Reuters that it will be increasing prices of its products this financial year amid rising production and raw material costs.

The price hikes are being implemented across all markets in a phased manner. Mother Dairy previously increased prices in June 2024 by Rs 2.
