Markets Close 2024 On A Flat, Lukewarm Note; Sensex & Nifty In Red

The markets start October on a sombre note. The indices closed for the day's trade on Tuesday, October 1 in red, having had myriad vacillations.

As the day came to an end, the BSE Sensex slumped with marginal losses of 109.12 points, or 0.14 per cent, ending the day at 78,139.01. Similarly, the NSE Nifty dropped in value by 0.100 points or 0.00042 per cent, to close at 23,644.80.

Additionally, the Nifty Bank also closed in red. The index closed at 50,860.20, decreasing by 92.55 or 0.18 per cent.

Major Gainers and Losers


Gainers: On the BSE tranche, at the time of writing, major gainers included Kotak Bank, ITC, Ultratech and Tata Motors. In addition, Tata Steel, SBI and Adani Ports also made gains.

Losers: After major gains yesterday, Tech Mahindra most over 2 per cent. Along with that, Zomato and TCS also made losses.

Markets In The Morning

The Indian markets opened flat on Tuesday, with Sensex at 77,863.83, down by 384.30 points or 0.49 per cent, and Nifty at 23,565.90, down by 79.00 points or 0.33 per cent.

Nifty Bank in the morning session was trading low at 50,790.65, also down by 162.10 points or 0.32 per cent.

Asian Markets

The Japanese markets were closed for trade. The Tokyo-based Nikkei index closed at 39,894.54 points after losing 0.96 per cent in value on December 30. The TOPIX index closed at 2,784.92, losing 0.60 per cent. As we move to China, on December 31, the Hang Seng also closed with marginal gains in its numbers, closing with a minor spike of 0.092 per cent to close at 20,059.95.

Shanghai-based SSE Composite also ended the day's trade with deep cuts. The index diminished in value by 1.63 per cent or 55.56 points of its value and closed at 3,351.76. South Korea's KOSPI was shut on December 31,the index ended the year on December 30 in red with losses of 0.22 per cent or 5.28 points, dropping to 2,399.49.
