New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has started accepting Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the financial year 2024–25. The last date to file ITR this time is September 15, 2025.

The department has already activated the ITR-2 and ITR-3 forms on its official website. As a result, more and more people are rushing to file their tax returns early.

But what’s more surprising is how fast the refunds are being processed.

Refunds Now Credited Within Hours

Gone are the days when people had to wait 90 days or more to get their tax refunds. In many cases during this assessment year (2025–26), taxpayers received refunds within just 4 hours of filing.

Thanks to digital processing, the entire refund system has become super quick.

Real Example: Refund in 4 Hours!

A report in Financial Express shared the story of Arun Prakash, a media professional from Noida. He said he filed his ITR on the government portal using Form ITR-1 at 5:03 PM, and by 9:02 PM — in just 4 hours — the refund was credited to his bank account.

Tax experts noted that earlier it took 30–40 days for the refund to arrive. But now, some taxpayers are getting it on the same day they file.

How to File Your ITR Step-by-Step

Here is a simple guide to filing your Income Tax Return:

- Log in using your PAN number if you're already registered.

- Under the “e-file” tab, click on “File Income Tax Return”.
